Dr. Yeong Kim is a theoretical nuclear physicist who authored or co-authored over 200 refereed scientific journal publications. He received his Ph.D. in 1963 from the University of California, Berkeley, followed by a technical staff position at Bell Telephone Laboratories, Murray Hill, New Jersey (1963-1965) and by a Post Doctoral position at Oak Ridge National Laboratory (1965-1967). His main area of research has been theoretical nuclear physics. He has also published widely on condensed matter physics, atomic, molecular and optical physics, nuclear astrophysics, nuclear fusion, and quantum statistical mechanics. Since 1967, he has been a group leader of Purdue Nuclear and Many-Body Theory Group at Purdue University.

He was Assistant Professor of Physics (1967-1973) and Associate Professor of Physics (1973-1977) at Purdue University. He was a Visiting Staff member (1973-1974) and a Consultant/Collaborator (1987-1993), Physics Division, Los Alamos National Laboratory. He was Chairman of the first Gordon Research Conference on Few Body Problems in Physics, New Hampshire, 1977. Since 1978, he served on advisory committees for government agencies and for numerous international conferences in areas of nuclear physics. He was a Participating Guest, Physics and Space Technology/N Division, Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory (1997-2000). He was Research Director for Physical Sciences, Purdue Research Foundation (1993-1998), and Director of Division of Sponsored Program Development, Purdue Research Foundation (1998-2001). He is currently Director of Purdue Center for Sensing Science and Technology (CSST) (2001-present) and Professor of Physics (1977-present) at Purdue University. He is a Fellow of the American Physical Society since 1977.

Entrepreneurial Activities

Professor Kim has been Director of Center for Sensing Science and Technology (CSST) since CSST was inaugurated in March 2001. Since 2002, six start-up companies (Griffin Analytical, Prosolia, Quadraspec, 2K, PathoChip, and QE) were created using technologies developed by CSST Co-Principal Investigators under his guidance as Director of Purdue CSST.
