Course Evaluation Goal Met - Exam 2 bumped by 10 points

Tue 10Dec2013 3:27PM

Over 50% of students responded to the course evaluation.  As described in last Wednesday's class, I bumped Exam 2 scores by 10 points.  To those who responded to the course evaluations, I thank you for taking the time to help improve the course.

Final Exam, Wed. 12/11 10:30 a.m. - 12:30 p.m., EE129

Mon 02Dec2013 2:51PM

The final exam will be comprehensive and will be the same format as the previous exams (10 multiple choice questions).  Three questions will be drawn from the material not previously covered on Exams 1-3: Chapters 12-16 and the corresponding Homeworks 11-12.  The remaining questions will be drawn exclusively from material found on the "Prof todd practice exam" section of the course website.

Please bring your Purdue ID, a #2 pencil, a calculator, and a 8.5x11" crib sheet containing any information that you'd like.  You may not use a cell phone or any device capable of wireless communication as a calculator.

You will be provided with the same front page as you were for Exam 3 giving: the moment of inertia for various shapes, the density of water, and the acceleration due to gravity.  Best of luck to everyone!

Exam 3, Nov. 13, 8-10 pm, PHYS 112 & 114

Tue 05Nov2013 10:11AM

We will have Exam 3 at 8-10 pm on Wednesday Nov. 13, 2013 in PHYS 112 and 114.

The exam will cover Chapters 8, 9, 10, and 11 and the corresponding Homeworks 7, 8, 9, and 10.  Please bring your Purdue ID, a #2 pencil, a calculator, and a 8.5x11" crib sheet containing any information that you'd like.  You may not use a cell phone or any device capable of wireless communication as a calculator.

You can find two sets of practice exams on this website.  The most relevant are labeled "Prof todd practice exams" under the "Course Content" heading.  These are the exams that I gave during Spring 2010, Spring 2011, Fall 2011, and Fall 2012.  Other exams can be found under "Important Links" -> "Practice Exams".  This contains several exams given by other PHYS218 professors in the past.  These are good practice, however, all professors being a little different, I would recommend first studying my previous exams.

Also, please note that in the Spring of 2010 there were only 2 exams during the semester.  Hence, the contents of the Exams from Spring 2010 are a bit different than the contents this semester.  The questions that are relevant to your Exam 3 are:

  Spring 2010, Practice Exam 2: 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, and 9

Final exams from Spring 2010, Spring 2011, and Fall 2012 are also posted.  Sorry, no solutions to the Spring 2011 final exam.

You will be provided with the same front page as the practice exams giving: the moment of inertia for various shapes, the density of water, and the acceleration due to gravity.  Best of luck to everyone!

HW 6 and Prelab 6 Deadline extended to Oct. 18 11:59 p.m.

Tue 15Oct2013 9:34AM

Several students reported technical problems with Webassign on Oct. 14.  Consequently, I have extended the deadlines for HW6 and Prelab 6 until Oct. 18 at 11:59 p.m.

Exam 2, Oct. 16, 8-10 pm, PHYS 112 & 114

Wed 09Oct2013 10:40AM

We will have Exam 2 at 8-10 pm on Oct. 16 in PHYS building, Rooms 112 and 114.  The exam will cover Chapters 4, 5, 6, and 7 and the corresponding Homeworks 3, 4, 5 and 6.  Please bring your Purdue ID, a #2 pencil, a calculator, and a 8.5x11 inch crib sheet containing any information that you'd like.  You may not use a cell phone or other communication device as a calculator.

In addition to the homework, a critical resource for studying for the exam are the practice exams on this website under "Prof todd practice exams".  These are the exams that I gave during Spring 2010, Spring 2011, Fall 2011, and Fall 2012.  Other exams can be found under "Important Links" -> "Practice Exams".  This contains several exams given by other PHYS218 professors in the past.  These are good practice, however, all professors being a little different, I would recommend first studying "Prof todd practice exams".  Please note that Exam 1 from Spring 2010 includes questions relevent to this exam (Questions: 2, 3, 6, and 10).   Exam 2 from Spring 2010 included material from later chapters (Questions: 1,2,3,4,6,9) that are not covered on your Exam 2.

All of my exams are given with and without solutions.  I highly recommend that you take the practice exam without looking at the solutions first and then evaluate your own performance.  If you can do well on the practice exam *without looking at the solutions* then you will be in good shape for the real exam.  I wish the best of luck to everyone!

Exam 1, Sept. 12, 8-10 pm, PHYS 112 & 114

Tue 20Aug2013 11:43AM

We will have Exam 1 at 8-10 pm on Sept. 12 in PHYS 112 and 114.  The exam will cover Chapters 1, 2, and 3 and the corresponding Homeworks 1 and 2.

Please note that Exam 1 from Spring 2010 included material from Chapters 4 and 5 (Questions: 2,3,6,10) that are not covered on your Exam 1.

All of my exams are given with and without solutions.  I highly recommend that you take the practice exam without looking at the solutions first and then evaluate your own performance.  If you can do well on the practice exam *without looking at the solutions* than you will be in good shape for the real exam.  I wish the best of luck to everyone!
