Biological evolution has produced elegant function at the nanoscale
and has served to inspire all who try to understand what can
be achieved by billions of years of patient trial and error.
One question receiving world-wide attention is whether the advanced
functionality demonstrated by naturally occurring proteins can
be exploited for nanoscale electronic applications. Our current
research addresses issues related to this issue as we try to
determine whether photo-active properties of some proteins can
be maintained on solid substrates like silicon.
