Demos: 1M-11 Ballistic Pendulum

Directions: Remove the drilled brass ball from the pendulum arm. To do this, apply pressure to the ball through the narrow hole in the back of the hoop. The ball should pop out with sufficient force. (A pencil can also be used as a tool to aid in this process.) Attach the ball to the end of the spring-loaded arm and use it to compress the spring until the arm catches on the release mechanism. You can fire the ball by using the trigger and measure the approximate height of the swing using the scale attached on the opposite side of the device. The impulse given to the ball by the spring can be adjusted using the knob attached to the spring-loaded arm.

Applications: Conservation of Momentum, Conservation of Energy, Work-Energy Theorem
