Demos: 1M-11 Maxwell's Wheel

Maxwell's Wheel is a small flywheel suspended by two wound strings. As it unwinds, the wheel will move downward and then return to its starting point. This process will continue until all energy has been dissipated.

Directions for doing the demo: Wind the strings of the flywheel up being careful to keep the apparatus level. Release the flywheel and it
will oscillate by itself for a period of time.

Suggestions for Presentation: Discuss the principles of energy conservation, momentum (linear and angular) and torque on the flywheel.
