Engaging Purdue Polytechnic High School (PPHS)

David Sederberg, k-12 outreach coordinator, has ongoing collaborations with two Purdue Polytechnic high schools in Indianapolis, both the Broad Ripple and Englewood campuses, serving a predominantly underrepresented minority population.

In 2023, our department hosted an on-campus field trip for the 20 Englewood students, providing lab tours, a presentation on physics and astronomy careers. Participants include Gabor Cathy, Ken Ritchie, and Natasha Harris (director of Multicultural Science Programs).

In 2023, Classroom visits (virtual and in-person) to the PPHS Broad Ripple campus by Danny Milisavljevic and Kyoung-Soo Lee included presentations and lively discussions on various astrophysics topics. These efforts will continue in coming years.

The first Astro Day event in early May will be organized by Sederberg and will involve multiple astro faculty members including Lee and Milisavljevic.
