Department Announces Raman Prize and Ramdas Award
The Purdue University Department of Physics and Astronomy announces a pair of recently established honors for two of its highest-achieving students. The Ramdas Award recognizes an exceptional senior undergraduate student who has completed a unique research project; it includes a $1,000 award. The Raman Prize recognizes a PhD student or recent alumni for his or her outstanding dissertation; it includes a $5,000 award. Both recognitions are made possible through the generosity of Anant K. Ramdas, the Lark-Horovitz Distinguished Professor of Physics and Astronomy (emeritus), and his wife, Vasanti Ramdas.
Ramdas Award for 2020 — Nicholas Hilgert
The Ramdas Award award was establish in 2018 by Anant K. Ramdas, the Lark-Horovitz Distinguished Professor of Physics and his wife, Vasanti Ramdas. The purpose of the Ramdas Award is to recognize an exceptional senior who has completed a unique project in the Department of Physics and Astronomy.
Raman Prize for 2020 — Katherine Schreiber
Katherine Schreiber completed her PhD at the Purdue Physics and Astronomy Department in May 2018. She was nominated by her PhD Advisor, Dr. Gábor Csáthy, and Dr. Yuli Lyanda-Geller, and Rui-Rui Du, Prof. of Physics and Astronomy at Rice University.
