Lab Final Quiz and Last Lab of the Semester

Mon 13Apr2009 12:10AM

The Lab Final Quiz will be held the first 25 minutes of lab during the week of April 20 - 23.  This will also be the last lab of the semester.

Also, the Tour of the Solar System lab found in the lab manual will be due that evening.

Speak with your TA this week for details.

Visit to the Praire Grass Observatory

Mon 23Mar2009 12:29PM

Our opportunity to visit the Prairie Grass Observatory has been scheduled for next week, March 30 – April 2 during lab.

The PGO has many high quality telescopes and the area is nearly ideal for viewing.

Due to the PGO being 30 minutes from campus, we will return ~11 pm.

If you have a conflict with the late return, arrangements can be made for you to remain behind and perform lab.

Your lab points that evening are attendance based and there will be no application quiz.

Your TA will have more details this week in lab.

Lab Time Change after Spring Break

Mon 02Mar2009 9:34AM

As will be reflected in your schedule, the lab time will change when lab resumes after Spring Break.  Nothing else changes, only the lab time.

After Spring Break and until the end of the Semester, Lab will be held from 8:30 pm until 10:20 pm.

This is done to account for longer days and day light savings to provide as many chances for outdoor observation as possible.

If you have any questions, please speak with your TA.

Lab  Midterm

Mon 02Mar2009 9:29AM

The Lab Midterm will be held the first twenty minutes of lab next week, March 9th - 12th.

There are review sheets posted on this website under Quiz Reviews to help you prepare for the Lab Midterm.

Also, your TA will be holding a review session at some point before the Lab Midterm.  Speak with your TA for details.

Lab Manuals Required for Lab

Mon 02Mar2009 9:26AM

As described in the lab syllabus, you are required to have a lab manual to particpate in lab.

Due to a lack of stock in lab manuals in the local bookstores, you may still particpate in lab until you obtain a manual.  However, this grace period only extends until Spring Break.  You must obtain a manual before lab resumes after break because the lab manual policy will go back into effect.

Please check all local bookstores when looking for a manual and speak with the staff if they seem to be out of stock.  It is your resonsiblity to obtain a manual before lab resumes after Spring Break.

Lab Manuals Currently Out of Stock

Wed 28Jan2009 11:08AM

The lab manual is currently out of stock in bookstores around campus.  We have been told that additional lab manuals were ordered and that they should be in stock by early next week.

With this in mind, arrangements have been made for those of you who do not yet have a lab manual concerning the math review that is due and being able to do the lab this week.  When you arrive at lab, your TA will have specific details.

Resolved:  Issue Viewing Transferred Lab Scores

Mon 26Jan2009 10:27AM

If you tried to view your transferred lab score and were having difficulties, please try again as the issue should now be resolved.

Issue Viewing Transferred Lab Scores

Mon 26Jan2009 12:10AM

There is currently slight issue when trying to view your transferred score.  If you signed the sheet at the beginning of the semester to transfer your score, it has been entered into the gradebook.  The issue of viewing your score should be resovled quickly and an announcement will be posted once the scores can be seen.

Transferred Lab Scores now in CHIP

Wed 21Jan2009 3:29PM

If you have previously taken Astr 263 or 264 and requested your previous total to be transferred, you can now log into CHIP to view your score.

You will find instructions on how to log into CHIP on the left hand side of the website.  Also, a handout detailing the same information will be distributed tomarrow during lecture, Thursday Jan 22.

Once you have logged into CHIP, your previous score can be found under 'Old Lab Scores'.

Please note that only your previous total score is transferred and not your previous nightly scores.  As the semester progresses, you may notice that you are recieving zeros for this semester's nightly scores but this does not matter as long as you have a score recorded under 'Old Lab Scores'.

Tue 20Jan2009 7:13AM

There will be no lab for any night during Week 2, Jan. 19 - Jan. 22.  Lab will resume normally during Week 3, Jan. 26- Jan 29.
