Department of PhysicsWe are a growing department! We currently have 59 faculty, 26 of whom have joined the department since 2000. Our undergraduate program has increased from approximately 90 majors in 1996 to about 170 in 2004, while 149 graduate students are currently working towards advanced degrees.
With such a large faculty, we are able to have both breadth and depth in a number of important and exciting areas that cross traditional research boundaries, such as biological physics, as well as those that are more discipline specific, such as astrophysics.
We believe strongly in providing our undergraduate students with research opportunities and provide entering students with a course specifically designed to assist them in making the transition from high school student to practicing physicist.
Finally, we have a nationally recognized outreach program that provides opportunities for all of our faculty, students and staff to share their fascination with the physical universe with a broader audience.
