Xia got her PhD in physics from Yale University in 2020, where she worked on the EXO-200 experiment, searching for neutrinoless double-beta decay in 136Xe — a rare process that, if observed, would prove that neutrinos are their own antiparticles. She then joined Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory as a Chamberlain Postdoctoral Fellow, working on the LZ experiment, which uses a xenon-based detector to hunt for dark matter. Originally from China, Xia received her bachelor’s degree from Nanjing University.
