TEMPORARILY REACTIVATING EQUIPMENT

Sometimes it is necessary to temporarily reactivate a piece of locked out equipment. This may be necessary to permit testing, such as measuring chain RPM, or voltages. In order to do this safely, the following procedure must be followed.
1. Remove unnecessary tools from the work area and ensure that equipment is safe to operate.
2. Make sure everyone is clear of the equipment.
3. Remove lockout/tagout devices.
Except in emergencies, each device must be removed by the person who put it on.
4. The Primary Authorized Employee should be the last person to take off his lock.
5. Re-energize the system.
6. As soon as the energy is no longer needed, isolate the equipment and re-apply lockout/tagout, using the seven step procedure.
