GHS Precautionary Statements



A Globally Harmonized System (GHS) Label contains one or more precautionary statements.  Precautionary statements are subdivided into General, Prevention, Response, Storage, and Disposal.   Some examples of GHS precautionary statements are:
 

PREVENTION STATEMENTS
Keep container tightly closed
Keep cool
Do not get in eyes, on skin, or on clothing
Use only outdoors or in a well-ventilated area
In case of inadequate ventilation wear respiratory protection
Handle under inert gas. Protect from moisture

RESPONSE STATEMENTS
Get medical advice/attention
Do NOT induce vomiting
Brush off loose particles from skin
Rinse skin with water/shower
Take off contaminated clothing and wash before reuse
IF SWALLOWED: Immediately call a POISON CENTER or doctor/physician
In case of fire: Evacuate area. Fight fire remotely due to the risk of explosion

STORAGE STATEMENTS
Store in a well ventilated place
Protect from sunlight
Store away from other materials
Store in a dry place
