Waste Minimization

The cost of disposal of chemicals is extremely high, so it is prudent to try to minimize the waste generated as much as possible.

1.  Find a non-hazardous alternative to chemicals being used.
2.  Don't buy more of a chemical than you will use in a reasonable length of time.
3.  Recycle unused chemicals.
4.  In some cases, chemicals can be recovered and reused by filtration or distillation.
5.  Minimize the amount of chemicals used in a procedure.
Modern instrumentation generally requires less sample material.
Don't prepare a liter of a solution if you will only use 10ml.
