Low Hazard Emergencies

This class of emergency involves small spills that are not immediately dangerous to life and health or a minor injury to personnel

1.  For SMALL Spills of Hazardous materials that you have the resources to remedy.
  Close doors if possible, and keep others out of the area.
  Use appropriate PPE to handle the spill.
  Use a spill kit, paper towels, or other absorbent material that will neutralize the spill, if available.  
  A dustpan and brush should be used to clean up contaminated absorbents.
  The area should be decontaminated with soap and water or other appropriate solvent after clean-up.
  All contaminated materials must be placed in a labeled closed container for pickup by REM.
2.  Minor Injuries.
  Report to a Purdue approved occupational medical provider if medical treatment is needed. The Purdue University Student Hospital is not an approved provider.
  All injuries which occur on the job should be reported.
  Do not transport injured person(s) in personal or department vehicles.   After giving first aid, call 911 (9-911 from PRIME Lab) for ambulance transportation.
  Do not dispense or administer any medications, including aspirin, or put any ointments or creams on wounds or burns.
