Hazard Classes for Chemical Storage

Chemicals should be stored by hazard class to avoid incompatible chemicals being stored in close proximity.

1.  Chemicals may be stored alphabetically once separated by hazard class.
2.  The recommended hazard classes to use are:
  Flammable/combustible liquids
  Flammable solids
  Mineral acids
  Organic acids (liquid)
  Caustics
  Oxidizers
  Perchloric Acid
  Water Reactive
  Air Reactive
  Heat-reactive (require refrigeration)
  Unstable (shock-sensitive, explosive)
  Others
  Gases
Toxic Gases
Flammable Gases
Oxidizing and Inert Gases
3.  Separation of hazard classes:
Storage in separate cabinets is preferred
If space is limited, containment trays may be used.
Tray must be compatible with the materials stored in it.
Tray must hold at least the volume of the largest container (in addition to all of the bottles stored in the tray) without overflowing.
