Four ways to increase channel capacity are to increase the bandwidth, increase the signal-to-noise ratio, increase the number of channels, and to detect and correct errors in data transmission. Detecting and correcting errors allows you to operate at close to the maximum theoretical channel capacity while still ensuring the integrity of the data being transmitted.
The SPI interface is very convenient for interfacing a relatively small number of components on a simple bus. It is relatively simple to implement because the data is synchronous with the clock signal, and there are dedicated data-in and data-out signals. It is typically used to transfer configuration or status data between components rather than to transfer large amounts of bulk data.
