WHAT PPE DO I NEED?

Each work area has a hazard assessment posted (unless there are no identified hazards in the area). In the hazard assessment, there is a list of the identified hazards in the work area. Each hazard lists the various activities that are done in that work area that involve the specified hazard. Finally, there is a list of the Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) that is needed while performing the specified tasks. Note that in many cases, anyone near the person doing the task will also be required to have the specified PPE.

The specified PPE is a MINIMUM requirement. You may feel free to use additional PPE as long as the minimum requirements are met. If you find that you need to perform tasks that have hazards that are not identified on the hazard assessment, the hazard assessment must be updated before performing the task. Any task to be performed by a staff member, student, or visitor must be covered in the hazard assessment. Tasks done by personell such as building servies and physical facilities need not be covered since they have their own safety program.
