Secondary Label Information
A secondary label is used when a material is
transferred to a container other that the one it was received in. .
It would also include a label for a chemical that was prepared at Purdue,
and therefore doesn't have a primary container.
Examples of this include:
1. | A sample that arrives for analysis is transferred to a test tube, beaker, or other container for processing. |
2. | A solvent is put in a wash bottle. |
3. | Part of a larger container of a chemical is transferred to a smaller container. |
4. | A chemical synthesized in a lab is put in a container. |
The label must be attached directly to the bottle. A GHS label is not required if the material is continuously in the presence of the person filling the container and is not left unattended for any reason.
Hazardous waste is governed by the EPA and does not require GHS labels.
