Definition: | ||
A relative property of a material to exert a poisonous effect on humans or animals and a description of the effect and the conditions of concentration under which the effect takes place. | ||
Examples: | ||
ammonium oxalate, calcium fluoride, copper (II) oxide,
potassium permanganate |

Precautions: | ||
Wear appropriate gloves while handling these chemicals | ||
If an aerosol or fine dust may be produced, handle the material in a fume hood or other means of containment. | ||
Store waste in appropriate containers | ||
PPE as required by hazard certification | ||
Possible Health Effects: | ||
Irritation or burns to eyes or skin | ||
Nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, or death if ingested | ||
Respiratory distress if inhaled | ||
First Aid: | ||
Immediately flush skin or eyes with tepid water for at least 15 minutes | ||
If unconscious: | ||
Remove victim to fresh air | ||
Apply CPR if appropriate | ||
Get medical attention | ||
