| Definition: | ||
| A relative property of a material to exert a poisonous effect on humans or animals and a description of the effect and the conditions of concentration under which the effect takes place. | ||
| Examples: | ||
| ammonium oxalate, calcium fluoride, copper (II) oxide,
potassium permanganate |

| Precautions: | ||
| Wear appropriate gloves while handling these chemicals | ||
| If an aerosol or fine dust may be produced, handle the material in a fume hood or other means of containment. | ||
| Store waste in appropriate containers | ||
| PPE as required by hazard certification | ||
| Possible Health Effects: | ||
| Irritation or burns to eyes or skin | ||
| Nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, or death if ingested | ||
| Respiratory distress if inhaled | ||
| First Aid: | ||
| Immediately flush skin or eyes with tepid water for at least 15 minutes | ||
| If unconscious: | ||
| Remove victim to fresh air | ||
| Apply CPR if appropriate | ||
| Get medical attention | ||
