Sling and Hardware Ratings:
All slings and hardware used for lifting must be
load rated. Slings and other hardware may not be used to lift more than their rated capacity.
Since ratings may be given in pounds or tons, it's important to know that 1 ton = 2000 pounds and to be able to convert units.
Slings must have an identification tag indicating the maximum lifting capacity.
Slings or other lifting components may not be used if the tag is missing or unreadable.
Slings may not be used if damaged.
If a sling is reparied it must be load tested before being put back into service.
The capacity may need to be derated depending upon the lifing applicaion. Derating of slings well be discussed later.
