Prevent Ingestion
Follow these guidelines to prevent the accidental ingestion of toxic substances.
|
|
|
1. |
No eating, drinking, smoking, or applying cosmetics in designated areas. |
|
 |
A designated area is any area that has been set aside for the use of select carcinogens,' reproductive toxins or substances which have a high degree of acute toxicity.
There is a long list of these on the REM web site.
These areas may be a hood, cabinet, table, or a whole room.
If it is the whole room, no food or drinks are allowed in the room. |
2. |
Avoid eating or drinking in any other lab areas. |
3. |
Wash hands frequently, even after taking off gloves. |
4. |
Don't carry toxic materials into your office. |
5. |
Don't store hazardous materials in old food containers. |
6. |
Make sure everything, hazardous or not, is properly labeled. |
