January 31, 2005: Under the CRONUS-Earth project, you are invited to a workshop immediately following this year's Goldschmidt Conference (May 20-25, 2005 in Moscow, Idaho, USA), which will run for approximately 2-1/2 days from May 26-28, 2005. The workshop will focus on developing consistent sampling procedures and protocols for both CRONUS-Earth and CRONUS-EU participants, to be used when collecting samples for the geological calibration (CRONUS-Earth) or the natural calibration network (CRONUS-EU). We will also be discussing specific logistical and sampling plans for the first CRONUS-Earth geological calibration site at the Lake Bonneville shorelines, Utah, USA. In addition, we plan to discuss initial sampling and logistical plans for the 4 calibration sites proposed for the second project year of CRONUS-Earth. Finally, we will have time to discuss any additional geological calibration sites not yet proposed for CRONUS-Earth (low- and mid-latitude sites are of particular interest). If you are interested in attending, please provide a PRELIMINARY response to Dr. Nat Lifton (lifton@geo.arizona.edu) by January 26, 2005, so that we can begin making suitable arrangements. Include whether or not you will be attending the Goldschmidt Conference as well. Our apologies for the short time frame.
