REU student Quinn Looker and Prof. M.
Lister have developed an Adobe flash applet that illustrates the
concept of superluminal motion in relativistic jets. The user can set
the viewing angle, intrinsic speed (Lorentz factor), and distance to
the jet, and then watch how a luminous relativistic object effectively
chases its own light signals to give the illusion of superluminal
transverse motion. You will need a copy of Adobe

MOJAVE collaborator Dan Homan of Denison university has developed a
Vpython 3-D superluminal motion simulation and accompanying laboratory
exercise for an
introductory astronomy level course, which can be accessed at http://personal.denison.edu/~homand/superluminal/
We have also produced an annotated movie of the quasar PKS 1222+21 which nicely illustrates a superluminal, accelerating trajectory and is designed for general audiences.
