He was once singing Cuban songs on Hollywood Blvd. CITY NATIONAL BANK OF BEVERLY HILLS, 400 N. Roxbury Drive Lucy purchased Desi's share of Desilu for $2,552,975.00 with financing from here. SANTA MONICA SUPERIOR COURT Lucy filed for divorced twice at this court. She listed her reason as "mental cruelty." NEWSPAPERS HOLLYWOOD REPORTER, 6715 W. Sunset Blvd. A friend of Desi's at this newspaper printed the Birmingham Reporter for Desi at the army hospital. Desi took out a full-page ad when William Frawley died. The layout included a picture of Frawley, the dates 2/26/1887 to 3/3/1966, and the message, "Buenas Noches, Amigo." I bought a copy of the Hollywood Reporter at a newsstand at the Farmer's Market. LOS ANGELES HERALD-EXPRESS There was a reporter and photographer from this newspaper outside Lucy and Desi~s bedroom window on 9/11/53 and the headline was: "Lucille Ball a Red." LOS ANGELES TIMES, Times Mirror Square (corner of 1st and Spring, downtown Los Angeles) Bill Henry, a neighbor of Lucy & Desi's in Chatsworth who worked at the Times, conducted the press conference at the pool at Desilu in Chatsworth regarding the Communist charges. The headline the day before the press conference was "Lucille Ball Not Red, Rep. Jackson Declares." The headline the day after the press conference was ~Everybody Still Loves Lucy." Hedda Hopper reported Desi's line on the front page of the Times: "The only thing red about her is her hair and even that is not legitimate." PEOPLE'S WORLD, 1251 S. Saint Andrews Place, Hollywood Grandpa Hunt read this Socialist/Communist newspaper in Los Angeles. NIGHTCLUBS and RESTAURANTS Brown Derby, 1628 N. Vine Street, 1 block south of Hollywood Blvd. 469-5151 is the number for the corporate office but there's no restaurant at this address. Lucy, Fred, & Ethel ate here in the episode with Eve Arden and William Holden. Lucy and Ethel each ordered the brown derby salad and spaghetti. Fred ordered the cutlet Marco Polo. Lucy Ricardo had menus from here as a souvenir. CASA MANANA, 6611 S. Alameda Lucy and Desi went here. CIRO'S, 8433 Sunset Blvd. Desi and his orchestra performed here. Lucy & Desi's pilot tour included Ciro's. Joe Frisco, a top vaudevillian would ask Desi for $10.00 here. Lucy and Desi went here. This club isn't listed in the phone book. DON THE BEACHCOMBER Lucy Ricardo had chopsticks as souvenirs from here. This restaurant isn't listed in the phone book. EL ZARAPE, on Sunset Blvd. Lucy and Desi~s first date was here when Desi asked Lucy, "How would you like me to teach you how to rumba?" They double dated with George Abbott and Ann Miller. This club isn't listed in the phone book. FLORENTINE GARDENS, 5951 Hollywood Blvd. (between Van Ness & Vine Street) Lucy and Desi went here. This looks like a big dance bar now. HOLLYWOOD PALLADIUM, 6215 W. Sunset Blvd. Desi and his orchestra performed here. This was the site of the 6th Annual Emmy Awards. "I Love Lucy" won Best Situation Comedy the second year in a row. Vivian Vance won Best Supporting Actress. Lucy lost to Eve Arden. William Frawley lost to Art Carney. Desi Jr. and Linda Purl were married here in January 1979. This club isn't listed in the phone book. LUAU--in Beverly Hills Desi threw an 18th birthday party for Desi Jr. here on 1/19/71. This club isn't listed in the phone book. MOCAMBO, 8588 Sunset Blvd. Lucy & Desi had dinner here the night before their first divorce. On 11/30/53, Desi surprised Lucy here with a 13th wedding anniversary party. In the "Hollywood Anniversary" episode, this is where everyone had dinner. MOULIN ROUGE THE PERENO'S On 3/7/55, this was the site of the 7th Annual Emmy awards. "I Love Lucy" received five nominations but no awards. This club isn't listed in the phone book. NICKODELL'S RESTAURANT, 5507 Melrose Avenue, 469-2181 Adjacent to Paramount & RKO Studios Desi interviewed William Frawley for the show here. Desi's book says that Frawley ordered a double bourbon. Bart Andrew's book says a scotch. We ordered these in memory of William Frawley. The man could evidently drink--they were much too strong for me! restaurant has pretty good food. The menus have a 1950's look about them. The hostess was delighted to give us a menu when we asked if we could buy one as a souvenir. No reservations required, casual. Be sure and walk through the bar area where William Frawley must have been. There's free parking across the street. This is the restaurant where Lucy Ricardo told everyone that she had lunch with the stars (at separate tables). This restaurant isn't listed in the phone book. ROMANOFF'S Ricky had lunch with Richard Widmark here in "The Tour." This restaurant isn't listed in the phone book. SLAPSIE MAXIE'S Desi threw a birthday party for Lucy and gave her the heart lapel watch. This club isn't listed in the phone book. SPAGO, 8795 Sunset Blvd. Lucy went to a party here after the Oscars in 1989. SWABBS (SCHWAB'S) This is the drugstore where Lucy Ricardo ate so many ice cream delights trying to be discovered like Lana Turner. Swabbs has been torn down but was located at 8024 Sunset Blvd. on the southeast corner of Sunset Blvd. and Crescent Heights. TROCADERO, 8610 Sunset Blvd. Lucy and Desi went here. WIL RIGHT'S This is where Ethel tried all of the ice cream flavors. There's no listing for Wil Right's in the phone book.
