There are lots of "Lucy things" to do at Disney World in Florida! Here's my post I share often. --------------------------------------------------- From our trip March 1996 Well, whether you like it or not, I'm going to share part of my Florida story with you! Only the Lucy parts, not every detail like how many stops we made for gas!!! On our trip to Florida, we spent one of our days at MGM Studios at Disney World. (This was our first vacation since 1989!) Ate pasta at the Brown Derby! If you go to MGM at Disney World, don't miss the opportunity to eat here and see all the stars' pictures on the walls. Make sure you have a reservation! (Call 407/WDW-DINE) Hint: if you want the spaghetti, order the children's portion called "pasta parmesan". Comes with rolls that you can BUTTER! And of course I had a tossed Derby salad! Naturally they also have Cobb Salad! No veal cutlets the day we were there though! Inside the menu (ask the waitress if you can keep it for a while to read it), there is a story about Lucille Ball and Jack Haley having a famous fight with rolls at the Brown Derby in California. You can pick up a business card size menu in the lobby to keep, though it doesn't have the Lucy story in it. Hint: I could not see Lucille Ball's caricature from where we were sitting so I asked the waitress. She knew right where it was, telling me, and saying "It's when she was still a blonde." Lucy's signed pic by the way, is as soon as you enter the dining area, to the left about half way down on the bottom row. So if you want to eat at her booth ask them when you make your reservation! Oh, and there will be a "talent scout" and a gossip columnist (Hedda Hopper) making the rounds at the Brown Derby! Our booth was very nice with drawings of James Cagney, Roy Rogers, etc. etc. above it. There is a tablecloth on your table! Very fancy. Now, I didn't dump anything on a star, but before we left my youngest son had dumped his coke on the tablecloth!!! The Brown Derby is not cheap, it cost us around $50 for four of us, plus a 15-20% tip. But it's the ONE thing I really wanted to do on vacation! Of course make sure you sit on the side of the booth that Lucy did to eat your spaghetti! Other Lucy related things: We checked out all the stars at Grauman's Chinese Theatre. What a bunch---they had left their footprints, handprints and signatures all over the place! Eddie Albert's were there (he did "Fuller Brush Girl" with Lucy), Bob Hope's and George Burns were next to each other. No John Wayne, but Patrick Wayne's were there! I'm writing this without my notes---I know there are more. Oh--June Allyson (she did 3 movies with Lucy). Someone on the list had mentioned the bronze busts in an outside hall of fame. Well, wouldn't you know it Lucy's was gone the day we were there! Did see Red Skelton's though. Hmmm... maybe someone stole Lucy's!!! (aka John Wayne's footprints?) (Okay, who did it?) Went to the Television Stars show but didn't get picked to play Ethel :( . It was fun though watching the lady who got picked wrapping candy with Lucy. Neat all the shows they did. Be warned: be there early and get up front CLOSE to the guy who is picking people. EVERYone he picked was up front. You first go into this open room where you are STANDING up for quite a while waiting for the show to start. Suddenly this guy comes out (Mr. Personality) and picks out people very quickly. I believe the Lucy one was first. You should have seen the hands go up for this one! (They also did Home Improvement, Golden Girls, Gilligan's Island, a soap opera, The Tonight Show, Bonanza, ...) Once the people are picked and taken backstage, the doors open for us to go into an air-conditioned seated theatre to watch the show. It was fun, don't miss it! Checked out Sid's One of a Kind store for Lucy items as someone advised on the Lucylist. I asked if there were any Lucy items. They had just sold a $700 black chiffon dress that belonged to Lucy! Wish I could have SEEN it at least! Okay, which one of you bought it? Found a gift shop on the main boulevard that sold several Lucy items including postcards, photos, keychains, magnets, and several different t-shirts. I bought a dark tan t-shirt with tall red letters that said LUCY, and inbetween the letters is the picture of Lucy, Ricky, Fred and Ethel in the car going to California. I also bought a magnet of a picture of LRFE I'd never seen before! They are all laughing about something. It was a very fun day. I recommend! -Nancy S.
