CHATSWORTH RANCH NEWS

Date: Sat, 6 Mar 1999 05:42:02 EST To: ns@physics.purdue.edu Subject: Desilu Ranch in Chatsworth, Ca. I happened across your web-site while looking for some land elevations for my property which is the remaining 2 1/2 acres of what used to be the 5 acre Desilu Ranch in Chatsworth. I would like to correct the location that you have described on your web-site and I will be happy to supply you with any current description, history or future plans that you might be interested in. The original street address was on Devonshire with a short private road leading up to the property. Later subdivisions did away with the private road and the ranch now faced the newly created "Chatsworth St." Years later a developer purchased the land from Lucy's estate, kept 2 1/2 acres with the original house and built luxury homes on the remaining lots. The subdivision created a new short culdesac named "Limerick St." that peaks into the property. The house was purchased in the 80's by a wealthy Persian family who expanded it to approximately 6000 sq. ft.. In the 1994 Northridge earthquake, major plaster damage revealed extensive termite infestation and the entire structure had to be demolished. Everybody who grew up in Chatsworth, including myself, has known of the history of this property. My personal interest with the history of Chatsworth and it's attraction to major celebrities such as Bob Hope, Roy Rodgers, Clark Gable etc., as well as my admiration for Lucille Ball, made the offering of this property last year, a must have situation. Remaining memorobilia includes the swimming pool, barbecue, and engraved oaks. I am finishing up the restoration of the existing land and plan to rebuild an expanded version of the original house which is why I was on the internet, to find some photo's of different views. Please feel free to e-mail me so I can provide you with any further info., photo's etc. Steve
