8th Topical Meeting on

Photorefractive

Effects, Materials, and Devices

July 8-12, 2001

Lake Lawn Lodge, Wisconsin

(Transportation)

About PR'01:

The 2001 Topical Meeting on Photorefractive Materials, Effects, and Devices (PR'01) is to be held on July 8-12, 2001 at Lake Lawn Lodge in Delevan, Wisconsin, 90 minutes north of Chicago. This meeting is one of a biannual series on this subject, and it follows the 7th annual topical meeting held at Elsinore, Denmark in June, 1999. The location of PR'01 will maintain the tradition of a relaxed setting to facilitate informal scientific discussions among participants.

Scope:

PR'01covers all aspects of research and applications of photorefractive science. Research on photorefractive materials, effects, and devices spans many scientific disciplines, such as crystal growth, solid-state physics, material characterization, nonlinear optics, and holography. Special attention at PR'01 will be given to papers that are exploring new directions in photorefractive science, especially as they bridge to broader areas of research in nonlinear and applied optics.

To get a complete picture of new results and trends in the field, the organizers of the Conference are interested to attract submissions involved in the development, characterization, and applications of unconventional photorefractive materials, and similar dynamic holographic media, including the physics and most promising applications of polymer films, liquid crystal based photorefractive materials, semiconductor heterostructures, bacteriorhodopsin films, inverted laser media, metal vapors, etc.

PR'01 Location:

Lake Lawn Lodge, 2400 E. Geneva St., Delevan, WI 53115. Phone: 414-728-7950. Newly renovated resort, on 275 beautiful wooded lakeside acres, 8 minutes west of Lake Geneva on Hwy 50 in Delevan, WI. The location is 90 minutes north of Chicago by car, with daily shuttle buses to Chicago O'Hare International Airport.

Submission of Abstracts and Papers:

Authors are invited to submit papers for oral and poster presentations. All accepted papers will appear in a special TOPS volume (Trends in Optics and Photonics) published by the Optical Society of America (OSA). The proceedings will be available at the time of the conference, necessitating submission of manuscripts to OSA two months prior to the conference.

Authors wishing to contribute papers are requested to submit a 200-word abstract by email to pr01@physics.purdue.edu, by Feb. 2, 2001. Abstracts should contain the preferred presentation format (oral or poster), as well as the name, affiliation, address, telephone number, fax number, and e-mail address of the corresponding author. Abstract should be in plain text. Please send no attachments or equations or figures.

Papers for presentation will be selected by an international program committee based on the contents of the abstract. Authors will be notified of the status of their submission by March 2, 2001. Notification will be sent to the corresponding author only, who will receive a TOPS author kit. Submitted manuscripts were due at OSA by April 16, 2001.  They will be sent out for review.  Authors should have been notified if changes are needed.

Accommodations:

There are 125 single or double rooms reserved at the rate of $109 per night, per room. In addition, there are 25 double-story loft rooms that hold up to four guests at a rate of $159 per night, per room. All arrangements for lodging should be made directly with Lake Lawn Lodge.  Inform them that you are with the Purdue Conference.  You may suggest room-mates to share with, or you may simply state that you wish to be placed in one of the 4-person lofts.  By the way, the lofts are great, and would really facilitate good late-night discussions.

PR'01Schedule:

On-site registration will be held from 2:00 - 5:00 PM on Sunday, July 8, followed by a social evening icebreaker 7:30-9:30.

The conference presentations will begin Monday morning, July 9 and continue through Wednesday afternoon, July 11. The concluding conference banquet will be held Wednesday evening. Lodging check-out and transportation to O'Hare International Airport will be Thursday morning, July 12.

Rooms as part of the conference are reserved Sunday night through Wednesday night. For those participants wishing to take advantage of better air fares, a limited number of rooms will be available Saturday evening. Guests wishing to arrive early, or leave late to take advantage of the recreational facilities at the site should make sure to register promptly (by April 2, 2001) to reserve available rooms for the extra nights.
