Following Ambrose the Turkey's liberation from certain doom, Thanksgiving 2007.

Early Life

Ambrose began his life largely free from want and fear and hardship. He quickly took up residence in the Theory Office of the Purdue University Physics Department. Nancy, one of the secretaries, treated him well. Every month they would set up a themed pine-tree, and every November he'd take up residence on a bale of hay, or a rocking chair.

Escalation of Agression

Things began to look perilous for Ambrose in 2007. When setting up the tree for November, Nancy set it in a cooking pot. Ambrose was then placed on the lip of the pot. The implication was clear: he was to provide the stuff of Thanksgiving dinner, and the weeks worth of leftovers that follow. The psychological abuse was intensified when a pumpkin lava lamp was placed next to the pot, with spoon in hand, ready to feast on Ambrose.

Josh, a concerned physics student, passed by the tree and expressed his sympathy for Ambrose. The secretaries found this amusing. When Josh walked into the office the following day, Coleen, the other secretary in the office, relayed to him a comment from one of the professors: 'you know - I think he's getting a little red in the face. It must be hot there . . . ' This type of harassment seemed needless and a bit cruel, but Josh did nothing, playing the coward.

The following day, Josh walked into the office to find that Marsha, who runs the department copy center, had dunked Ambrose's head into the pot of water - a full week before Thanksgiving. This was too much, and direct action was called for. Josh made arrangements with Diane, the custodian for the 2nd floor of the physics building, to help free Ambrose.

Liberation

On the evening of November 15, with Diane's help, Ambrose escaped from the Physics Theory Office. Ambrose even made sure to leave a bit of food for the bloodthirsty pumpkin, demonstrating a true strength of character by showing his aggressor far more generosity than he himself ever received.

Narrowly missing certain death has ignited in Ambrose a desire to travel and experience the world. A group of concerned citizens has resolved to fund his travel abroad until Thanksgiving has safely passed. Sara, a sympathetic photojournalist, has been kind enough to capture images of his travels.
