VERITAS: A Next-Generation TeV Observatory
I am a member of the
VERITAS collaboration. At the core of the collaboration
are members of the former Whipple collaboration that pioneered the
Atmospheric Cherenkov Imaging Technique, which revolutionized the field of
ground-based gamma ray astrophysics. VERITAS consists of an array
of four 12 m Cherenkov telescopes. Compared to the Whipple telescope, it
delivers roughly an order of magnitude
improvement both in sensitivity and lower energy threshold.
