Dark Matter and Dark Energy
About 70% of the total energy density of the universe is attributed to
dark energy, which manifests itself observationally in causing the
expansion of the universe to accelerate, and about 30% to matter, whose
gravational pull tends to cause the expansion of the universe to
decelerate. Of all matter in the universe about 80% is in the form of
dark matter - the ordinary matter that we are familiar with constitutes
only about 20%.
