Undergraduate Students

We really value our time with our GMP members. Here are some of the activities we have done!

Past activities

Conference for Undergraduate Women in Physics (CUWiP) is an APS regional conference for undergraduate physics majors. It is usually held in January at appointed universities for 3 days. In 2018, we went to Michigan State University, and last year, we attended CUWiP at University of Chicago. We met many fellow WiP students from our region. Here are some of the photos from the UChicago conference!

Pumpkin-painting:

To celebrate Halloween, we also invited students in the department to decorate pumpkins while watching Bill Nye the Science Guy episodes!

Physics Undergraduate Get-Together:

School can get very stressful, especially around exam times. To reduce some of the stress, we planned a casual and fun event where students can make chocolate-covered strawberries, decorate sugar cookies, and listen to music while hanging out with fellow physics majors. We also passed out some stress balls, pens, and sticky notes as a little "souvenir" at the end of the event.

Upcoming Activities:

Two-Minute Research Flash:

Although this has not taken place yet, we are interested in presenting a small-scaled research flash for students who are interested in joining a research team. Most of our members play an active role in different fields of physics research. We want to have each of them talk about their research for two minutes and answer any questions the audience may have as a mean to introduce them to a potential research group that they would like to join. We will resume the planning process as soon as the normal meeting procedures will no longer be affected by the coronavirus pandemic.
