January 22, 1998

The first general meeting of Women in Physics in 1998. WiP discussed its plans for the coming year, including a luncheon with University of Washington's Lillian McDermott on January 29, Expanding Your Horizons, ScienceScape, Imagination Station, and Physics Funfest. If anyone is interested in volunteering their time for these activities or has ideas for demonstrations, please speak up!

January 29, 1998

Lillian McDermott and Paula Heron from the University of Washington were our guests. We discussed over lunch their research in physics teaching and why they chose to enter the field of physics. More than 20 people attended and enjoyed our catered lunch. Thanks to everyone for coming!

March 26, 1998

Stephanie Green addressed Women in Physics about her platform as a candidate for Purdue Student Government President.

WiP Vice President Allison Lambeth updated everyone on the situation with Imagination Station. A formal demonstration for Imagination Station was put off for the following semester, but Allison announced that she was looking for volunteers for Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays from 1 to 5pm during the month of April.

WiP Graduate President Elizabeth Hingley updated everyone on the status of ScienceScape and Expanding Your Horizons. She is seeking help with EYH, which will be held on April 18.

April 23, 1998

Women in Physics held a Spring Picnic in the Purdue Mall to help raise funds for future activities. Hot dogs were grilled, and other items, such as potato chips, chocolate chip cookies, twinkies, and ice cream were sold. The event went well and some money was raised to aid in the future.
