(This is the constitution document that is on file in the Dean's office. Women in Physics at Purdue became an official university-recognized student organization in the Spring semester of 1993 after years of unofficial existance.) Article I- NameThe name of this organization shall be Women in Physics. Article II- PurposesThe purposes of this organization are to promote an environment, both within the department and within society, that will increase overall performance in physics as a whole, with a special emphasis on those issues dealing with women and to strengthen relationships among physicists in order to better facilitate the sharing of knowledge and information. Article III - MembershipMembership in Women in Physics is open to any Purdue University student who is interested in women's issues and concerns with respect to physics and society. Associate membership is open to any Purdue University faculty or staff member and concerned members of the community. Membership and participation shall be free from discrimination based on race, religion, ethnic group, national origin, handicap, gender, or sexual orientation. There shall be no membership dues. Article IV- Officers, AdvisorThe officer structure of Women in Physics shall include a Presidential committee consisting of one graduate student and one undergraduate student and a Treasurer/secretary (either a graduate or undergraduate). These officers shall be chosen by an election to be held in the month of November. They shall serve for a term of one year. In The event of a vacancy, a new officer will be chosen by election. The advisor for Women in Physics shall be either a faculty or staff member and shall be chosen by the members. She or He shall serve a term of one year. The advisor shall act as a liaison between the organization, the physics department, and the university. Article V- Officer's DutiesThe presidents shall oversee the functioning of the organization, inclusive of committees, activities, etc. The treasurer/secretary shall keep the accounts, deposit the organization's funds, and make expenditures in a manner approved by the office of the fiscal director of student finance as well as keep an accurate record of the meetings, activities, etc... Article VI- AmendmentsAmendments to the constitution shall be approved by a majority vote of the members. All amendments to the constitution are subject to the approval of the Office of the Dean of Students. |
