SPS Hapenings
This week:
- Results of the Emergency Run-off Election
- A reminder about the Cookout...again
- This week's Colloquium
Results of the Emergency Run-off Election
The votes have been counted, falsified, verified, altered, alliterated, and
counted again and the winner is--drum-roll if you please (you can't hear it, but
there's a drum-roll)--Jessica Fischer!!!
Huzzah! We have the exact same person for whom we voted in the first place. If
that isn't democracy, then...well technically it's a representative government,
so it's more like the classical idea of a Republic, but whatev'.
Cookout Reminder
In case you didn't know--and you should've known--the SPS is having a Cookout in
Memorial Mall on Tuesday 22 April 2008 AD (in the Gregorian Calendar, Cody) from
around eleven-ish ante meridiem until whenever the food runs out.
So, tell your friends, tell your roommates, tell your professors, tell your TAs,
tell your parents, tell you aunts (but under no circumstances are you to tell
your uncles), and generally tell everyone you can to come out and support the
SPS by getting free food.
Colloquium (And Lunch)
What's this? More free food? Yes, there is a colloquium lunch this week (as
well as a colloquium). There's still time to sign up, but spaces are filling.
If you haven't experienced it before, the colloquium lunch is a great time to
meet the speaker in a more intimate (but not TOO intimate) setting. Also, the
food is free.
This week's colloquium will be given by Saul Teukolsky of Cornell Univeristy on
"Black Holes and Gravitational Waves". So, come and learn something. Or
pretend to learn something as the subject matter makes a whooshing sound over
your head as you come to the slow realisation that maybe, just maybe, you
shouldn't be in physics.
