New Curriculum Meeting
As I'm certain you're all aware, there will be a meeting with free pizza on Tuesday 15 April 2008 AD (check with Sangita for the room number). However, the correct time for that meeting is 12:30 PM (that's noon) to 1:20 PM. Chris Bairnsfather has graciously volunteered to take all the blame for this mix-up as most of you do not know him. I will, however, be glad to point him out for you.
VP Run-Off Election
Due to a certain lack of clarity to how the initial run-off election for
Vice-President worked, we will be having a special emergency run-off election
for the post (just think of the first two votes as practice).
The voting will be from the instant the Lounge opens on Monday 14 April 2008 AD
until 5:00 PM Friday 18 April 2008 AD. And here's how it'll work:
- There will be official ballots for the voting.
- Members will obtain said ballot and vote for whom they wish to be Vice President.
- Your choices are Kifer or Jessica Fischer (Kifer's last name is not Fischer, it's Troxell).
- Members will find one of the following officers (Zohar Aliya, Matt Triano, Matt Turzci, Ross Blythe, Alex Pan, or Sean O'Banyel--hey that's me!) to literally SIGN THE OUTSIDE OF THE BALLOT, OR IT WILL BE INVALID!!!
- The aforementioned officers will find a different officer to sign off on their ballots.
There will also be a check-off list for the officers to sign to make certain that no one votes twice. Any amount of voting less than or equal to one will be permitted. The votes will be tabulated by the impartial officers and our new (or possibly same) VP will be announced in next weeks Propaganda.
Self-Promotion Cookout
As much as I would like this to be in promotion of myself, it is actually in
promotion of ourselves. We all know that SPS is the epitome of awesome and the
centre of what's happening on campus, but somehow this information has not
reached the rest of the student body.
So, we will be having an epic cookout tentatively scheduled for Friday 18 April
2008 AD on Memorial Mall. We'll be setting up from 10:30-11:00 AM and cooking
until the food is gone. See Zohar or Matt Turzci if you want to help set up,
and find me if you would like to help flyer campus for the event.
End of the Year Party
Yes, it's that time of year again folks. The trees are chirping. The birds
have bright green foliage again. Summer has arrived, and with it, the end of
the school year. In acknowledgement of this momentously annual occurrence, SPS
will be hosting an End of the Year Party for all members for FREE!
The party will be at 3:00 PM at Happy Hollows Park on Sunday 20 April 2008 AD
until whatever time we choose to leave (or the park kicks us out). It will be
"catered" by delicious Qdoba. If you need a ride to the Park, meet in the
Lounge (Phys 236) at 2:30 PM on the same date. I expect to see you all there,
if I show up.
Math Club T-Shirts
The Officers have agreed to help the socially awkward (just kidding) Math Club in their selling of what can only be described as super-awesome "Euler Up!" T-Shirts. SPS will be buying certain amount from the Math Club and we will be selling them for $12-$12.50 per shirt (at a reasonable profit to ourselves).
A Message for the Women
Former President Shakeel Dalal (I assume you've heard of him) recently received
an email that he passed along to me concerning an opportunity for women
undergrads in science-, math-, and engineering-related fields. This a direct
excerpt from said email containing all the pertinent information:
I am writing to solicit help from some members of your organization. I work with Dr Margo Monteith, a social psychology professor at Purdue, and we are piloting some materials for a series of studies that we will be running over the next semester.
We need to test our materials on female undergraduate students who are majoring in math/science/engineering-related subjects to make sure they are of appropriate length and difficulty. We need 30 female undergraduates to help us out before the summer. The pilot takes less than 30 minutes, is not stressful in any way, and we will come to a location that is convenient to you and your members. We have funds to compensate either your members individually, or your organization - so this is a great opportunity to raise a little money and really help us out.
Any number of your female members who would be willing to participate would be a great help...
Any and all female undergrads interested in participating should contact Elles Coster directly at ecoster@purdue.edu.
