Production of ultrashort (i.e. few cycles of oscillations) optical pulses became a reality during the last decade. Subfemtosecond optical pulses or even optical pulses with the predetermined sub-cycle shape of electric field can be generated using a broadband (few octaves of bandwidth) coherent light source. Such light can be produced by molecular Raman modulation technique. I will review the current state of ultrashort optical pulse generation and will describe some of our experimental results.
