http://english.iop.cas.cn/pe/?t=detail&id=575In the present talk, I will focus on the new family of topological insulators with very strong correlation effects, the mix valence materials.
We combine the density functional theory with the rotational invariant Gutzwiller approximation to study the topological nature of the typical mix valence (MV) materials SmB6 and SmS Using the recently proposed green's function method, we determined the Z2 topological invariance for both two materials to be odd, indicating that these MV materials are promising 3D topological insulators (TI) with very strong correlation effects. The unique features of these strongly correlated TI are computed and fully discussed including the formation of the gap, the reduction of the quasi-particle weight and the atomic multiplet features in the electronic structure.
