Title of Project: Silicon avalanche diodes for a time of
flight detector
Abstract of Project
My work will consist of two R&D project:
- I will be testing avalanche reach through diodes which
are being investigated for future use as particle detectors
in high energy experiments. The testing will involve
mounting diodes made in EE and testing their timing
characteristics using beta source.
- I will also be constructing and testing a 0.5 m long
drift chamber to be used in the STAR experiment at the
Relativistic Heavy Ion Collision: This chamber will be used
to measure the drift velocity and diffusion of electrons in
various gases.
