The 10Be/Al ratio in a gravity core from the Arctic ocean is shown to depend on the late Pleistocene palaeoclimate and its variation in turn can be used to obtain the sedimentation rate of the core. In meltwater-dominated regions of limited productivity of the world oceans, 10Be/Al ratio in stratigraphic samples can serve, like delta 18O in productive areas, to decipher glacial-interglacial sequences.
