Neutron Irradiation of Biological Materials

Neutrons have tremendous potential for destruction of unwanted biological material. They can easily penetrate most common materials due to their small size and lack of a charge to deposit energy in living cells. We are currently measuring the quality factor for various bacteria and fungi and contrasting the effect of gamma rays and neutrons to assess their usefulness as a sterilizing agent.
