The Mugler group collaborates with fuil-time Physics Outreach Coordinator Dr David Sederberg to design and present science activities to K-12 students, both locally in the community and at educational events around the country.

Physics Inside Out

2018-2019: Physics Inside Out
Physics Inside Out is a week-long camp at Purdue for middle and high schoolers. In collaboration with outreach coordinator David Sederberg and high school physics teacher David Snyder, the Mugler group designed and presented the activity "Counting what you can't see." In this activity, students use Poisson statistics to understand fluctuations in (i) m&m colors and (ii) protein numbers in cells. In the latter case, the fluctuations allow students to estimate protein numbers even though the individual proteins cannot be seen under the microscope.

GK-12

2008-2010: NSF GK-12 Fellowship
As a graduate student, Prof Mugler was a National Science Foundation GK-12 Fellow and worked with middle school math teacher Michael Seymour in Brooklyn, NY to develop, deliver, and post online 30 lessons that integrate curriculum with research.
