Rules for the Faculty
Shop
Card access issued to an individual is for
the sole use by that individual only.
1) It is against University regulations to
loan or give your Purdue identification card
to anyone else to
gain access to the Faculty Shop. Persons caught
loaning out their ID card will have their Shop
access
revoked.
2) The doors to Rooms 40 and 41 must remain
locked and closed at all times.
3) Do not open any of the doors to the Shop
for anyone who may be trying to gain access
without an ID card.
4) Safety glasses or goggles must be worn in
the Shop at all times, next to the east doors.
5) Long hair must be tied back out of the way.
6) No long shirtsleeves allowed, however long
shirtsleeves may be rolled up. No shorts, skirts,
loose clothing, ties, or scarves are to be worn
in the Shop.
7) Remove jewelry before entering the Shop.
8) Wear appropriate shoes in the Shop. No open
toed sandals, wear shoes that give you a sure
footing.
9) No gloves are allowed to be worn while operating machinery or equipment
10) Safe Conduct in the Shop:
Be aware of what's going on around
you. For example, be careful not to bump into
someone while they're cutting with the bandsaw
(they could lose a finger!).
Concentrate on what you're doing.
If you get tired, leave.
Don't hurry. If you catch yourself
rushing, slow down.
Listen to the machine. If something
doesn't sound right, turn the machine off.
11) Do not abuse the machinery or equipment;
follow the guidelines that pertain to the speeds
and feeds for the machinery, tools, and material
being used.
12) Before you start the machine, study the
machine. Know which parts move, which are stationary,
and which are sharp. Double check that your
workpiece is held securely. Remove chuck keys
and wrenches.
13) Do not leave machines running unattended.
14) Clean up the machine or equipment, and
the surrounding area by the end of the day.
A dirty machine is unsafe and uncomfortable
to work on.
15) Do not leave set-ups in a machine overnight.
16) Return all tools to their original places
when you are finished with them.
17) Always use the Tool Sign-Out Sheet (located
in the Tool Room) before taking any tools outside
of the Shop.
Any person that deviates from the above rules
will have their Shop access revoked.
Faculty Shop Hours: 7:30 am to 10:00 pm. Weekend
machining has to be specially arranged.
Safety Training for access to Faculty Shop
is required for all users.
