3D Reconstruction of the Supernova Remnant Cassiopeia A

Web Application

A web application powered by Javascript/WebGL has been developed to allow users to interact with a 3D reconstruction of the supernova remnant Cassiopeia A. The app is compatible with most modern browsers. You can check compatibility and obtain instructions on how to enable WebGL here. Firefox works best, Safari and Chrome have tested well but sometimes need to have WebGL enabled.

The data used to created this web app are originally published in the following papers:

Optical data:

Milisavljevic, D. & Fesen, R.A. 2013, ``A Detailed Kinematic Map of Cassiopeia A's Optical Main Shell and Outer High-Velocity Ejecta.'' ApJ, 772, 134

Near-infrared data:

Milisavljevic, D. & Fesen, R.A. 2015, ``The Bubble-like Interior of the Core-Collapse Supernova Remnant Cassiopeia A,'' Science, 347.

X-ray data:

Delaney, T., et al. 2010, ``The Three-Dimensional Structure of Cassiopeia A,'' ApJ, 725, 2038

The X-ray data were kindly provided by T. Delaney.

Also used in this web app is an image of Cassiopeia A made with the Hubble Space Telescope retrieved from www.spacetelescope.org. We credit NASA, ESA, and the Hubble Heritage STScI/AURA-ESA/Hubble Collaboration. The original observations for this image were obtained from the data archive at the Space Telescope Science Institute. The data are associated with GO 10286 (PI: R. Fesen). STScI is operated by the Association of Universities for Research in Astronomy, Inc. under NASA contract NAS 5-26555.

Contact Dan Milisavljevic at dmilisav@purdue.edu if you have difficulties using the web app or are interested in using the data for your own project.
