2024 NFS Graduate Research Fellowship Program announces awardees and honorable mentions
The National Science Foundation (NSF) has announced the 2024 Graduate Research Fellowship Program (GRFP) which included 20 awardees and 12 honorable mentions from Purdue University. Of the pool of innovators, the Purdue University College of Science students stood out with ten awardee offers and two honorable mentions including these Purdue PhysAstro students: Meenakshi McNamara and Sara Cuevas-Quiñones.
Distinguished Professor Chris Greene selected as 2024 Morrill Award winner
PURDUE UNIVERSITY — Chris Greene, a theoretical physicist and the Albert Overhauser Distinguished Professor of Physics and Astronomy, has been named Purdue’s Morrill Award winner for 2024. Greene was recognized Tuesday (May 7) with other 2024 award winners at Purdue’s annual Faculty Honors Ceremony and Reception. The Morrill Award is the highest honor that Purdue confers on a faculty member and recognizes faculty who best exhibit excellence in teaching, research and engagement.
Purdue joins Chicago Quantum Exchange, tapping into the region’s efforts to advance U.S. leadership in quantum technologies
PURDUE UNIVERSITY — Purdue University has joined the Chicago Quantum Exchange in the collaborative effort to advance the science and engineering of quantum information, build the future quantum workforce, and drive the nation’s quantum economy. As the newest member of the CQE, Purdue joins interdisciplinary research activity anchored by the University of Chicago, the U.S. Department of Energy’s Argonne National Laboratory and Fermi National Accelerator Laboratory, the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign, the University of Wisconsin-Madison, and Northwestern University.

An interdisciplinary team of researchers from Purdue University has performed side-by-side comparison of precision data collected from both the Mother Machine and the SChemostat technologies, providing substantial insights into quantitative rules governing the maintenance of stochastic homeostasis in living systems. The technologies were developed at Purdue University in the lab of Prof. Sri Iyer-Biswas.
