Novel Incompressible States of Matter: Fractional Quantum Hall Effect

Thursday September 14, 2006

Professor John J. Quinn
University of Tennessee, Knoxville

Following a short historical account of the striking discoveries on the Integer and Fractional Quantum Hall Effect, a tutorial description of the nature of correlations and the composite Fermion picture underlying these phenomena will be presented by Professor Quinn. He will then discuss the new theoretical insights and concepts which he and his research group have developed which elucidate the validity of the composite Fermion.
