With his bachelor’s degree from Purdue University in Electrical Engineering, Edward Purcell soon began a distinguished career in physics. His research initiated new fields of physical research and brought him the Nobel Prize in 1952. He was an outstanding teacher both in and out of the classroom. He served his campus and he served his country at the highest levels. He had human qualities that rarely come together in men of great achievement.
