Nobel Lecture:
April 14 - 4:00pm Phys 223
(Reception 3:20p.m. in room 242)

Professor Robert Laughlin
Stanford University
Department of Physics

Title: "The Physics of RNA Polymerase"

Prof. Robert Laughlin was a co-recipient of the 1998 Nobel Prize in Physics with Prof. Horst L. Stormer and Prof. Daniel C. Tsui. The three researchers were awarded the Nobel Prize for discovering that electrons acting together in strong magnetic fields can form new types of "particles", with charges that are fractions of electron charges.

Citation:

"for their discovery of a new form of quantum fluid with fractionally charged excitations."
