Professor William Phillips

April 26: "Atoms near Absolute Zero"
Professor Phillips was awarded the Nobel Prize in 1997 for the cooling and trapping of atoms with laser light. In 1996, he received the Michelson Award. With his laser set-up, Professor Phillips creates optical lattices, which are crystal-like arrays of atoms held in place by light waves.
Professor Phillips will present our annual best student awards and teaching awards.
