Visualization Technologies for Modern Scientists

Visualization technologies have permeated almost every facet of science and engineering these days. From analyzing terabyte satellite data to investigating molecular and material structures, from demonstrating 3D medical images to simulating flow dynamics, visualization algorithms and systems are increasingly demanded. This is mainly due to the soundness of the fundamental idea of scientific visualization, that is, using computer-generated pictures to gain understanding and insight of data efficiently. While having profound impact on the methodology of science and engineering, visualization technologies provide a new approach to solving complex, multivariate, and cross-disciplinary problems. This talk will present the state of the art in visualization technologies, both as a review of the vital area and a perspective of its applications for the modern scientists.
