Title:

The Case of the Oscillating Neutrino

Abstract:

Do neutrinos have mass? Are there just three standard neutrinos or perhaps a fourth, sterile neutrino? Answers to these questions could alter our understanding of the cosmos as well as how these ghostly particles fit in the Standard Model. Evidence from neutrino oscillation experiments from around the world indicate that neutrinos may oscillate between their different flavors and therefore may have mass. Results from solar and atmospheric neutrino experiments as well as the accelerator neutrino experiment, LSND, will be presented along with future experiments designed to resolve outstanding questions. In particular, the BooNE experiment, designed to confirm or rule out the LSND experiment, will be described.
