General Colloquium
November 9 - 4:00pm Phys 223 (Coffee at 3:30p.m. in room 242) Bolek Wyslouch Title: "First results from the Relativistic Heavy Ion Collider: a new frontier of nuclear physics" |
| Abstract: In June 2000 the Relativistic Heavy Ion Collider in Brookhaven National Laboratory became operational, delivering first collisions of gold nuclei at the center of mass energy of 130 A GeV: an order of magnitude higher than that available from accelerators to-date. This opened a new frontier in particle and nuclear physics, with a potential to study the behavior of strongly interacting matter with extreme energy densities. The four experiments at RHIC are presently analyzing first data from these collisions. I will present the results obtained from the first round of data. |
