Title: "First results from the Relativistic Heavy Ion Collider: a new frontier of nuclear physics"
In June 2000 the Relativistic Heavy Ion Collider in Brookhaven National Laboratory became operational, delivering first collisions of gold nuclei at the center of mass energy of 130 A GeV: an order of magnitude higher than that available from accelerators to-date. This opened a new frontier in particle and nuclear physics, with a potential to study the behavior of strongly interacting matter with extreme energy densities. The four experiments at RHIC are presently analyzing first data from these collisions.
I will present the results obtained from the first round of data.
